Argument Essay Blog Three

Argument Essay Blog Three
After a visit to the writing center we together decided that the hybrid automobile topic was not really cohesive with the rest of the paper. So I chopped out a section of over 350 words. That was a major setback but sometimes setbacks are the most important decisions you'll ever make. I began to look for new ways to organize my paper. I combed over the document trying to decide how to improve the way the subjects are tied together. My original draft felt like it lacked a thesis statement but I wasn't really sure without doing my research which direction my paper should be headed. After I gathered a great deal of information I felt like it was full of information but needed a new roadmap to lead my reader from start to finish in a more logical pattern. It seemed like the harder I looked the more I found in the more overwhelmed I became. As my father often said I couldn't see the forest for the trees. Aaron at the writing lab had a really good method for evaluating a large document. He laid all my sheets of paper out side by side in order so he could view the document as a whole. It seems so logical but had never thought of such a thing before. With his help I made many improvements but I still have a long way to go.
One such improvement was to clip a section from the introductory paragraph and converted into a summation because of its strength. I had a step-by-step plan of action and I was able to complete some of the steps. But the more I think of it the more difficult it becomes to cut such a large document into pieces and rearrange them into a homogenized whole.
I found a pictograph of energy sources and how they are interrelated and used for raw materials into the forms of energy they are most suited. The graph is full of statistical data that I feel could be very helpful in simplifying explaining the key points of my paper but I have to find a way for get approval to integrate this figure into my document. Because of its graphic nature it says many things more simply than the entire paragraph. The old a picture is worth 1000 words is a well spoken adage for this bit of vital information. It has really helped me to clarify and solidify in my own mind how these energy resources work together and also alone. Another key point that I wasn't completely aware of was the vast quantity of energy that is wasted in production and pre-consumer use, such as transportation, transmission, storage, etc. I realize that the grid is outdated and energy is lost because long distances electrical power must travel through the transmission lines of the transmission lines. But a 26% loss was really an eye-opener even for me. Petroleum products had an additional 21% loss of energy. These two facts alone give my whole paper a cause for argument.
